Hello and welcome. I am Nick Taylor, and this is my (reasonably hidden) home on the web. This site contains occasional updates on subjects that interest me, mostly technology-focussed, but also on the environment (things like peak oil, renewable energy and so on), finance & business, security/privacy/identity and a rare amount of politics.
Currently, I work as the project manager and architect for the Identity & Access Management project in a large investment bank. To begin with, this seems just like peoples’ passwords, but is a somewhat deeper topic. On rare occasions I get to think about some interesting applications of security technology in a high-value, large-scale setting. For the rest of the time, I just sort out peoples’ passwords. I’m hoping that I get more opportunities to develop my interest in security/identity on a wider scale. Previously, I’ve had experience of working on large financial internet applications, grid computing and real-time data exchange. You can find out more about my career at my LinkedIn profile.
Outside of work, I’m developing what some might describe as a bit of an obsessive interest in energy consumption and the environment generally. You’ll see this manifesting itself particularly in my posts on the energy use in my house, and my following of green tech issues.
I currently live in South West London, and occasionally travel to interesting places, though nowhere near as often as I’d like. Despite having visited a small amount of Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, there remain dozens of places I’d like to go. The job which funds these occasional trips inevitably means I don’t have time to go.
Content on this site is all produced by me. There are posts about the industry I work in, but I try to avoid explicit comments regarding my current work. All views are my own and not necessarily shared with my employers, past or present. The work here has some rights reserved (by-nc-sa).
If you’d like to get in contact with me, you can do so by emailing blog@nicktaylor.co.uk. You can also occasionally find me on MSN (nick@nicktaylor.co.uk), Yahoo! (nicktaylor20002004), AIM (nickjtaylor@mac.com) or ICQ (338108).
You should be aware that whilst I seem to spend far too much time in front of a computer, I also seem to struggle to keep up with the torrent of stuff flowing in my direction. Personal email often suffers as a result. If you mail me, I’ll get to it within a couple of days.
